A Warm Winter Haven

Sleet and ice is predicted in the next two weeks; and the North West is forecasted to be covered in a blanket of white snow; which will soon transform into slippery black slush. People need to be extra-vigilant on the roads and make sure that they have enough petrol in their cars for long journeys as there will no doubt be delays on the roads; especially motorways. Flooding causes huge tailbacks and can make hordes of disgruntled motorists late for meetings and important appointments. If you are one of the unfortunate individuals who are forced to rely on public transport, then you could be in even bigger trouble as buses, trams and trains can be severely affected by fluctuating weather conditions; and may not even run at all. If there are leaves on the line or the cables are frozen then it is a guaranteed certainty that there will be massive delays and you may not even be able to get into the office as it could prove an impossible feat. You are already stressed enough having to trudge through the pouring rain and avoid getting soaked by passing traffic; so maybe it is time to take a break in the Lakes for a few days.

The Cherry Garth Hotel in picturesque Ambleside is an absolutely stunning building; framed by leafy, abundant foliage. It makes for the perfect autumnal and winter scene as it looks ever so pretty all year round. When the seasons change; this lovely Ambleside B&B transforms into the most ideal summer home, springtime retreat, Advent setting and Bonfire Night haven. Since Guy Fawkes’ Night has passed and we are getting everything ready for Christmas, there seems to be a little bit of despondency amongst harassed individuals who cannot get a moment’s peace and feel that the weight of the world is upon their shoulders. Some ‘me time’ is long overdue; and Ambleside accommodation provides the perfect getaway. People flock from far and wide to relax and unwind in comfortable, homely Ambleside accommodation and there are numerous guesthouses in the region that are more than keen to give you a traditional Cumbrian welcome and make you feel completely at ease. Bed and breakfast Ambleside is proving to be a hugely popular choice amongst tourists and they always ensure that they check the Lake District Tourist Guide before making their final decision. Remember, Remember, the 5th of November

On this fateful day in 1605 Guy (or Guido, as he was known when he fought the Spanish in the Low Countries) Fawkes was arrested and charged with high treason for his part in attempting to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Had he succeeded, who knows what might have happened?  Britain would be a completely different place altogether if we did not have the Prime Minister, the Houses of Lords and Commons and the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Who would make the rules and regulations that citizens need to adhere to? Would the nation have fallen into disrepute or flourished as a result of not having a governing body deciding what we can and cannot do? It is a fascinating and daunting concept to consider the effects of a successful mission to abolish Parliament altogether; and if it had not been for an inside informer, then Mr Fawkes could have been lauded as a historical hero instead of a villain caught red-handed in an unspeakable act. He met a grisly end; as did his co-conspirators; and the legend of the story still lives on today as we celebrate Bonfire Night every year and congregate together to ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ at fireworks exploding in fields, outside castles and at public parks, playgrounds and fairgrounds.

And Yorkshire; along with the Lake District; has long since been perceived as an area of complete, unadulterated beauty. The birthplace of Guy Fawkes was recently voted one of the most spectacular regions in the world; and a top destination to visit in 2014, according to Lonely Planet. It comes as no surprise; as there are so many areas which are unspoilt and rich with delicate autumnal hues; much like the Lakes. Windermere in particular is one of those extra-special places in the Lake District which seems to remain unspoilt and beautiful no matter how many people choose to venture there every year. When sunny; the lakeside is packed to the rafters with eager travellers and local residents yet the air still remains crisp and clean. Accommodation Windermere is affordable, warm and welcoming as there are hordes and hordes of quaint little Windermere B&B’s just waiting to bestow their traditional blend of Cumbrian hospitality onto you. As far as accommodation Windermere goes; you will not find anywhere more peaceful and relaxing to stay as it is completely different from a normal weekend break in the city. You can avoid the hustle and bustle of crowded town centres and shops packed to the rafters with early Christmas shoppers; which is always a bonus.

B&B’s Windermere are always situated in sought-after locations which offer more than a modicum of peace and tranquillity. If you are having trouble deciding which Windermere bed and breakfast establishment to plump for, then maybe it is time that you consulted the Lake District Tourist Guide for a little bit of inspiration?
